Square Online alternative

Square Online vs Happy Websites

Square’s builder is free. Ours is designed and written for you, and it’s yours if you leave.

Square Online, which Square now just calls websites, is the website builder that comes with every plan from Square, the payments company owned by Block. It costs less than Happy Websites: free on Square Free, or $49 a month on Square Plus to connect your own domain. You build it yourself, and you lose access to it if you cancel.

Square Online, quickly

How much does a Square Online website cost?

Nothing extra on Square Free.

Square Free has no monthly fee, and online card payments cost 3.3% plus 30¢. Square Plus is $49 a month per location and Premium $149, with online payments at 2.9% plus 30¢, in US dollars.

Who builds a Square Online website?

You do, with Square’s website builder.

You pick a layout, add your colors, fonts and photos, and import your menu from Square POS. You can also hire a Square Specialist for design and setup help.

Can you use your own domain with Square Online?

Yes, on Square Plus or Premium.

Connecting a domain isn’t part of Square Free. A domain bought through Square is registered with Register.com in your name, and some new one- or two-year paid plans include one free for the first year.

What happens to a Square Online site if you cancel?

You lose access to it.

Cancelling the site takes effect at once, and Square may delete its content without keeping a copy for you. Plans have no contract, and fees already paid aren’t refunded.

Is Square Online good for food trucks?

For ordering ahead, yes.

Square’s food truck page pitches a branded online ordering page for pickup, free invoices for catering gigs and texts to regulars about your location, all tied to its POS.

Yes. Square is part of Block, Inc., based in Oakland, California, and is BBB accredited with an A+ rating. On Trustpilot, Square scores 3.6 out of 5 from about 7,500 reviews covering all its products, 13% of them one-star.

How much does a Square Online website cost?

Square’s website builder is included with Square Free, which has no monthly fee; online card payments cost 3.3% plus 30 cents. To connect your own domain you need Square Plus, at $49 a month per location, or Premium at $149, where online payments cost 2.9% plus 30 cents.

Can I cancel Square Online anytime?

Yes. Square’s plans have no long-term contract, and you can cancel from your account settings. Fees already paid aren’t refunded, cancelling the website takes effect immediately, and Square doesn’t have to keep a copy of your site.

Do I own my Square Online website?

Your content stays yours, but the site runs on Square: if you cancel, you lose access to it and Square may delete it. A domain registered through Square is registered in your name, and you can transfer it to another provider.

Is Happy Websites a good Square Online alternative?

If you want the site done for you, yes. Happy Websites designs and writes it, with unlimited edits and your domain included, for $99 or $199 a month, which is more than Square’s free builder. Keep Square for payments and online ordering; we link your Order button to it.
