The Knot alternative

The Knot vs Happy Websites

The Knot rents you a listing 12 months at a time. We build you a website of your own, month to month.

The Knot Worldwide, which runs The Knot and WeddingWire, sells venues paid storefront listings on both sites, which it likens to a mini-website, at prices it doesn’t publish. Its terms set a 12-month first term that renews automatically, payments aren’t refunded, and you get a right to use the storefront, not ownership of it.

The Knot, quickly

Does The Knot sell websites?

No. It sells storefront listings.

A storefront is a listing page on The Knot and WeddingWire, which WeddingPro likens to a mini-website. It links to your own website, and The Knot’s team writes its description based on that site.

How much does The Knot cost a venue?

It doesn’t publish prices.

Paid tiers such as Spotlight, Featured and Professional are priced in your order form. Vendors in 2026 reviews and complaints report $1,500 to about $6,000 a year; none said they ran a venue.

Does The Knot have a contract?

Yes, 12 months, renewing automatically.

Cancel in your WeddingPro dashboard at least 10 days before the term ends. Payments aren’t refunded, and after the first term rates can rise with 30 days’ notice.

Do you own your storefront?

No, you get a right to use it.

The Knot’s terms give a limited right to use its services, with no ownership rights. Ads it creates for you belong to The Knot.

What does The Knot do that we don’t?

Put your venue in front of couples.

WeddingPro says The Knot and WeddingWire draw 15 million+ unique visitors a month. Venues also get one inbox for both sites, verified reviews and award badges.

The Knot FAQ

Is The Knot legit?

Yes. The Knot Worldwide runs The Knot and WeddingWire, which came together in 2018, and says it connects more than 4.5 million users with around 900,000 small businesses a year. The BBB rates it F, citing 83 complaints it didn’t respond to, and it isn’t accredited. On Trustpilot, WeddingWire, where most reviewers are vendors, scores 1.3 out of 5.

Does The Knot build websites for wedding venues?

No. The Knot and WeddingWire sell storefronts: listing pages on their own sites, which WeddingPro likens to a mini-website. A storefront links to your own website, and The Knot’s team writes your storefront description based on that site.

How much does The Knot cost for a wedding venue?

The Knot doesn’t publish prices. Paid placement comes in tiers such as Spotlight, Featured and Professional, set in your order form, and a basic storefront is free, though free listings aren’t guaranteed to appear. Vendors in 2026 reviews and complaints report $1,500 to about $6,000 a year; none said they ran a venue.

Can I cancel The Knot anytime?

Not during the first term, going by its terms. That term is 12 months unless your order says otherwise; cancel in your WeddingPro dashboard at least 10 days before it ends, or it renews. After that, you can cancel at least 10 days before a billing date. Payments aren’t refunded, and rates can rise after the first term with 30 days’ notice.

Is Happy Websites a good alternative to The Knot?

For your own website, yes: Happy Websites designs and writes it for $99 or $199 a month with no contract, and the site and domain are yours. It doesn’t replace The Knot’s audience of couples, its inbox for both sites or its reviews and badges, which we don’t offer. You can keep a free storefront and point it at the site we build.
